CARBON CYCLE IN ACTION: CREATING AVIRTUAL FIELD TRIP OF CARBON IN A GLOBAL ECOSYSTEM Elements on Earth are constantly being cycled and recycled. They move and transform between living and nonliving things across the many diverse ecosystems on our planet. One of these important elements is CARBON. Itʼs a building block for life and is everywhere you look! YOUR JOB: Create a virtual field trip that 1. Shows the places and processes that move carbon in different places across the world. 2. Teaches other students about how carbon cycles in global ecosystem of your choice. As a team, create a virtual field trip using a 360° photo of a global ecosystem of your choice to model the carbon cycle that includes ✓ Different places where carbon can be found. ✓ Different processes that move carbon in the cycle. ✓ Ways humans interact with and impact the living and nonliving things that are part of the carbon cycle. This might include: •How humans can affect a particular process of the carbon cycle. •How humans can affect the role of the ocean, land, or atmosphere. •How humans are contributing to carbon emissions. •How humans are managing carbon emissions. ✓ Lots of different media! Want to narrate with audio? Go for it! Want to add close-up shots, video, or your own original drawings? Do it! Think about creative ways you can use the platform tools to share your growing knowledge about the carbon cycle with your classmates. When your trip is done, youʼll share it with another group. You will explore their trip and they will explore yours. Be ready to give and receive some feedback! Periods 2, 4 Trip by:_____________________________________ CARBON CYCLE IN A GLOBAL ECOSYSTEM VIRTUAL FIELD TRIP CHECKLIST Use this checklist to help you create your trip. Complete the checklist items for each element to make sure your trip tells an engaging and detailed story about the carbon cycle in a global ecosystem. You can add extra features not listed here, but every box should be checked when youʼre finished with your trip! Note: A single tag can contain several elements; for example, one tag can focus on human impact on a particular process in the carbon cycle. Processes that Move Carbon in the For photosynthesis, combustion, and cellular respiration: create Cycle tags that describe: •Photosynthesis where you see (or could see) the process in action in the •Decomposition environment •Extraction what the process is where carbon is going to or coming from in the process •Combustion •Cellular respiration Choose another process and create tags that describe: •Sedimentation •Exchange where you see (or could see) the process in action in the environment what the process is where carbon is going to or coming from in the process Humansʼ Impact on the Carbon Cycle 3+ tags describing how people play a role in moving carbon How do humans: through the carbon cycle in this ecosystem •Impact a particular process of how carbon 1+ tag that shows data about humansʼ use of carbon in the moves through the carbon cycle. area or in the world •Affect the role of the ocean, land, or 1+ tag describing something people in this ecosystem are atmosphere. doing to minimize or manage their impact on the carbon •Are contributing to processes that move cycle carbon to the atmosphere. 1+ tag that predicts how peopleʼs impact on the carbon cycle •Are contributing to processes that move in this ecosystem will change in the future carbon out of the atmosphere.
